Saltire Society award winners 2019: Sandstone Press won Scottish Publisher of the Year, and Kay Farrell of Sandstone Press and Alan Windram of Little Door Press were jointly awarded Saltire Society Emerging Publisher of the Year Award. 404 Ink and Jamie Norman of Canongate Books were Highly Commended in these two categories.

Network Member of the Month is Robbie Guillory, Robbie is an agent at the Kate Nash Literary Agency. He also supports publishers and authors.

Acair have received the Special Contribution Award at the Scottish Gaelic Awards 2019.

BOOKS

Among the six book covers shortlisted for the Saltire Society Scottish Book Cover Award 2019 are:

  • Animals Eat Each Other   by Elle Nash (404 ink) and designed by Leah McDowell of elemdesign. 
  • Guardians of the Wild Unicorns by Lindsay Littleson, illustrated by Samantha Woo and published by Kelpies (an imprint of Floris Books). 
  • The Disconnect by Keren David, published by Barrington Stoke and designed by Julie-Ann Murray and illustrated by Jen Collins. 
  • The Wind That Lays Waste by Selva Almada (translated by Chris Andrews), published by Charco Press and designed by Pablo Font.  (WINNER)

 

The Wind That Lays Waste by Selva Almada (Charco Press) won the Edinburgh International Book Festival's 2019 First Book Award

The Flame by Leonard Cohen (Canongate Books) won the non-fiction category of the Books Are My Bag Readers Awards 2019 

Owen and the Soldier by Lisa Thompson (author) and Mike Lowery (illustrator) (Barrington Stoke) is shortlisted for Best Story in the Blue Peter Book Awards 2020. This is the first dyslexia-friendly title to be shortlisted for the prize. 

Taking the Plunge by Anna Deacon and Vicky Allan (Black & White Publishing) is featured in an article on the Stylist website.   

Resistance  by Julián Fuks (Charco Press), Hanuman's Travels by Andrei Ivanov (Vagabond Voices) and The Hoarder by Jess Kidd (Canongate Books) are longlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award 2020.

Resistance by Julián Fuks (Charco Press) is also shortlisted for the 61st Jabuti Awards (Best Foreign Edition) in Brazil.

Good Boy by Mal Peet (author) and Emma Shoard (illustrator) (Barrington Stoke) and An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Castle Legends (Floris Books) by Theresa Breslin (author) and Kate Leiper (illustrator) are both nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal 2020.
