    The Wind That Lays Waste by Selva Almada (Charco Press) has won the Edinburgh International Book Festival’s 2019 First Book Award.

    Congratulations to all the publishers shortlisted for awards. Five have been shortlisted for the Publisher of the Year award: 404 Ink, BHP Comics, Canongate Books, Charco Press and Sandstone Press. Six publishers feature on the Emerging Publisher of the Year shortlist: Pauline Cuchet (Canongate Books); Anne Glennie (Cranachan); Kay Farrell (Sandstone Press); Jamie Norman (Canongate Books); Richard Wainman (Floris Books); and Alan Windram (Little Door Books).

    Ten women from the fields of the arts, culture, politics, activism and science have been honoured and inducted into the esteemed Saltire Society 'Outstanding Women of Scotland' community at a special event as part of the Women of the World, Perth. Congratulations to Joy Hendry, Editor of literary magazine Chapman, and all the other inductees.

    Bound printed books do not fall within the definition of 'printed books' included in list of EU products that will attract recently announced US tariffs. The WTO authorised the setting of US tariffs over a long-running US/EU dispute over illegal subsidies.

    The Scots Language Awards took place in Glasgow on 27 September 2019. Itchy Coo / Black & White Publishing won Scots Business o the Year and a book published by them - Diary o a Wimpy Wean by Jeff Kinney, tr by Thomas Clark - won Scots Bairn's Book o the Year.
