    Working Verse in Victorian Scotland: Poetry, Press, Community by Kirstie Blair (Oxford University Press) is the winner of the coveted Saltire Society Book of the Year award 2019, and The Seafarers: A Journey Among Birds by Stephen Rutt (Elliott & Thompson) and Threads of Life by Clare Hunter (Sceptre/Hodder & Stoughton) were jointly presented the Saltire First Book Award.     Many congratulations to the Saltire Society award winners 2019. Sandstone Press won Scottish Publisher of the Year, and Kay Farrell of Sandstone Press and Alan Windram of Little Door Press were jointly awarded Saltire Society Emerging Publisher of the Year Award. 404 Ink and Jamie Norman of Canongate Books were Highly Commended in these two categories.

    Six covers have made the shortlist for the Saltire Society's brand-new award - the Scottish Book Cover Award. Covers on books published by 404 Ink, Barrington Stoke, Charco Press and Floris Books are among them. The winner will be announced on 30 November 2019.

Five have been shortlisted for the Publisher of the Year award: 404 Ink, BHP Comics, Canongate Books, Charco Press and Sandstone Press. Six publishers feature on the Emerging Publisher of the Year shortlist: Pauline Cuchet (Canongate Books); Anne Glennie (Cranachan); Kay Farrell (Sandstone Press); Jamie Norman (Canongate Books); Richard Wainman (Floris Books); and Alan Windram (Little Door Books).

    Ten women from the fields of the arts, culture, politics, activism and science have been honoured and inducted into the esteemed Saltire Society 'Outstanding Women of Scotland' community at a special event as part of the Women of the World, Perth. Congratulations to Joy Hendry, Editor of literary magazine Chapman, and all the other inductees.
